At the District’s COVID Centers, individuals will have access to vaccinations, boosters and take-home rapid antigen tests as well as a new walk-up testing opportunity which will allow residents to administer and register a PCR test themselves.
Children, ages 6 months to 17 years, as well as adults can receive vaccinations and boosters at any COVID Center.
Register SAME-DAY for your COVID PCR test at coronavirus.dc.gov/register or go to your nearest COVID Center to register on-site, no appointment necessary.
COVID-19 Therapeutics
Therapeutics are medications used to treat at risk groups for COVID-19 and are prescribed by healthcare providers. Please contact your health care provider to determine if you are eligible for a COVID-19 therapeutic.
Therapeutic treatments must be started within the first few days of illness to be effective. It is important to know that therapeutics are NOT a substitute for receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 can lower your risk of getting and spreading the virus that causes COVID-19 and prevent serious illness and death.
Treatments available include antiviral and monoclonal antibodies treatments. Antiviral drugs inhibit or reduce the ability of the virus to replicate in your body, which can lessen the severity of the disease. Monoclonal antibodies help the body’s own immune system to fight off the virus that causes COVID-19.
Paxlovid
Paxlovid is an antiviral treatment. DC Health is partnering with Color Health to offer a free COVID-19 treatment access program via telehealth. This telehealth service is free for District residents. Paxlovid is provided at no cost. This service is available from 9 am–7 pm, 7 days a week.
To request a telehealth consultation for the COVID-19 antiviral treatment Paxlovid, residents will need to visit color.com/covid-19-treatment-dc. Learn more at https://coronavirus.dc.gov/page/covid-19-therapeutics.
Other Antiviral Treatments
There are also antiviral drugs in a pill form that can treat non-hospitalized patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 symptoms with the risk of progressing to severe disease. These medications are available as pills. Treatment must be started within the first 5 days of illness. You must have a prescription to receive these medications. Supplies are limited, so the medications are restricted for use by people who are most likely to become severely ill from COVID-19. Learn more at https://coronavirus.dc.gov/page/covid-19-therapeutics.
Monoclonal Antibodies Treatments
Monoclonal antibodies are laboratory-made proteins that mimic the ability of our body’s immune system to fight off harmful pathogens like the virus that causes COVID-19. To be eligible to receive this treatment, you must meet certain criteria and receive a prescription or treatment referral from a healthcare provider.
